Saturdays Scrimmage and Pep Rally

Our scrimmage game against ALTA on Saturday is at 8:00am. It is at Riverton field #1.

Coach wants the team at the field by 7:00am. They will be running through the plays and getting all warmed up and game ready! Players will need to wear their "game" jerseys (that's the purple ones!) and socks.

Also on Saturday is the Riverton Football Pep Rally. This is the only fundraiser the league is having this year. That's good because it kept our boys from having to go around selling items to earn money for the league!! So please tell your families and friends to plan on attending the scrimmage this Saturday and enjoying the Pep Rally after the game!!

There will be hot dogs, chips, drinks and etc available at a low price! After all the games are over there will be a dunk tank in which the players can dunk their coach for only $0.50 cents a throw!!
WHAT GETS BETTER THAN THAT BOYS?????
There will also be a raffle with cool prizes and the Riverton High Cheerleaders will be there to perform!
It's sure to be a fun afternoon and an inexpensive way to entertain the family!
Although the Rally will be going on all day, during the games......scrimmages are over at 3:00pm and that is when the dunk tank and things will take place!

Pictures Tonight

Just a reminder that pictures are tonight, Wed Aug 26th @ 5:30pm. Please be on time!
The boys need to wear their PURPLE jerseys and game socks!!!! Helmets are NOT worn in pictures so feel free to comb that hair before it gets all sweaty!!! :)
Please have your picture order form filled out before you arrive at pictures and have payment ready if you are choosing to purchase additional photos or other items!

Practice will be right after pictures, from 6:00pm-8:00pm!!

Team BBQ

The BBQ was awesome! We had a great turnout! Thank you all so much for your willingness to bring salads, desserts, chips, paper goods, drinks......... it was all fabulous! A HUGE thank you to Coach Salazar who was able to hook us up big time with all the hamburgers, hot dogs, and buns! Thank you Thank you Thank you! Also thanks to everyone else who brought BBQ items! We couldn't have done this BBQ without everyone being so willing to help out! We really really appreciate everyone's efforts! The team is so lucky to have such supportive parents!

Saturdays Scrimmage

Wow! What a crazy day! The boys looked great in the scrimmage! The coaches were very proud of all the boys. They have worked hard and come a long way in just a short time! They were glad to see where they still needed work, but were very excited about how well we did!

Thank You so much to those of you who brought the awnings that provided shelter from the rain for so many parents! Pretty sure we'll have several more cold rainy days by the time the year is over, lets just hope they are in October rather than August!!

Week Two Photos

Scrimmage and BBQ

Saturdays practice/scrimmage will begin at 9:00am and go until approx 11:30-12:00 and then have our BBQ. We will wrap up by 1:00pm at the latest!

BBQ Info
We will BBQ at the same place we practice. Everyone should plan on bringing their own chairs or blankets. The BBQ will be a great opportunity for our team to really 'gel' together and get to know each other better. Please plan to spend this hour with the team -- you are welcome to bring the whole family!
There are still several slots open for the BBQ sign-ups, if you have not had a chance to look at that please find Stacie at practice! Thanks for all your support!

Saturday Weigh-ins

Weigh-ins on Saturday are scheduled at 8:20am. We are required to be there 20min early. All players must be at the practice field at 7:55am, we will then walk over to weigh-ins together. We have to be at the 'shed' at 8:00am on Saturday morning. Players need to be wearing gym shorts, t-shirts and socks. A reminder from the league that parents are not allowed at weigh-ins. The team will be taken back all together, they will not allow parents to join them!

**everyone MUST be at weigh-ins in order to play in the first game!** If for ANY reason your player will not be there you need to contact Coach Williams.

Parents Meeting

We will be gathering at practice Thursday night at approx 7:00 pm to talk about the upcoming events for the team and brainstorm some ideas of everything we want to accomplish this year as far as treats, banners, awards, banquets, trophies, etc. Please bring your ideas with you!! What contacts/connections do you have that could benefit our team?? I will be attending a league 'team mom' mtg at 6:00 pm and will then share that information with you when we meet at 7:00! Thanks for your support!

First Injury of the Season

We have had our first injury of the year, let's hope it is also our last. Maguire Strong received 4 stitches in his chin after practice on Tuesday night.

Welcome to Gremlins Football

Dear Riverton Gremlin Players and Parents,

Welcome to Ute Conference Football. As a coaching staff, we are very excited to get to know your boys and are looking forward to helping them develop their skills, have a lot of fun and hopefully win a bunch of football games. For all of the first-year players and families, I suspect by now you’ve observed a difference between football and the other youth sports you may have participated in. The schedule of practices and games is demanding, but in the end, your son will have an opportunity to learn many of the fundamentals of the game and will begin to learn many important life lessons – including how to overcome obstacles, how to be persistent and how to work as a team toward a common goal.

My philosophy with regard to youth sports is that above all else, it should be fun. Fun doesn’t always translate into easy or leisurely, but just because we are learning new skills and pushing ourselves to try a little harder, it doesn’t mean that we can’t smile a little bit while we do it. I would like to try to find new and engaging ways to teach the boys. We will do things like the Caterpillar Race, Relay Races and Bull In The Ring, to keep their attention and to make it competitive and fun.

I wanted to write a few words with regard to practice time. The teams we will be competing against this year all are working on the same schedule and I expect that they all will be well-prepared when we meet. In order for us to be equally prepared, it is important that the boys are at practice and that they are on time. If a player is consistently missing practice time, that player will tend to fall farther and farther behind the rest of the team. In many ways, football is just like math class in that one concept builds on another. Also important (particularly early in the season) is that players learn the correct techniques so that they can minimize the potential for injury. If your son needs to miss practice, please let me know as far in advance as possible. The easiest way to reach me is to email me at cdubb36@gmail.com or call me on my cell at (801) 916-4723.

Lastly, with regard to playing time, Ute Conference rules require that all players play at least 10 plays during each game (unless they are held-out for injury, disciplinary reasons or for missing practice.) It is my goal to exceed this minimum with every player every week. That said, playing time is based on our observations regarding effort during practice, attitude and skill. As coaches, we will try to put each player in a position to succeed and to be able to be on the field as much as possible.

Parents, thank you for allowing your son to be a part of our team this year. We drafted each of these players because we saw in each of them the potential to improve and to enjoy their experience this year. If you have any concerns or questions, please talk to me after practice or drop me an email.

Thanks and Go Silverwolves!

Coach Cody Williams
